Bringing happiness in life is not only by luck, chance, or wealth. A person who is happy chooses to be. The pursuit of happiness is something we all want and need. All person on earth puts their actions, time, and energy into finding happiness and contentment in their life. Some habits we think are beneficial can be damaging. It may be pleasurable momentary, but detrimental in the long run. Here we notice the key difference between happiness and pleasure. A feeling of happiness is something over a long period, resulting from long-term habits we have developed. There may be many circumstances where you have to choose happiness or short-term pleasure. Happy people choose long-term happiness over short-term pleasure. Unhappy people prefer short-term pleasurable activities over long-term happiness.
According to research, 50% of our happiness is determined by the habits we develop for our lives, and 50% by genetics, life circumstances, environment, race, gender, and family background.
Happiness is no longer a hidden treasure. Here we cover certain habits and behavioural practices that can bring happiness into everyone's life.
Happy people scarify instant gratification in search of sustainable happiness. The fortitude to resist the need to experience immediate pleasure is the key to finding lasting happiness. You should pick healthy eating over savoury junk food, regular exercise over mindless phone or television use, in-person interactions over social media, and time spent learning new skills over time wasted to live a happy life.
ProcrastinationPutting off work that must be completed by a deadline, procrastination can give you temporary pleasure. But putting off crucial tasks may hinder your progress. Happy individuals never procrastinate on top-priority tasks. But happy people don't procrastinate because they know that the momentary relief will soon be replaced by the anxiety and worry of the approaching deadline.
They Know When to Say NOHappy people know very well when to say yes and when to say no. They do not hesitate to say no to things they do not want. They don't say "yes" to appease a loved one. They don't always say yes to avoid upsetting anyone. The essential principle of happiness is first to make yourself happy before making other people happy. They understand their boundaries very well. They do not get stuck with obligations they do not want to do. However, that does not imply that they are narcissists.
Stay in Healthy RelationshipHappy people devote their time and resources to healthy relationships. They do not invest their energy in unhealthy relationships, which can not rejuvenate their energy. If the previous relationship had commitments and unfavourable vibes, they ended it. They believe there are plenty of kinds, caring, and enthusiastic individuals in the universe. They have the right to go on and explore a new relationship if they aren't satisfied with their current one. Being stuck in a relationship that does not make us happy is painful for our mental health.
Not Aiming for PerfectionHappy people do not run the blind race to perfection. They know that no one can be perfect. Happy individuals are well aware that perfectionism is the enemy of happiness. Though they strive to do their best and aim high with their goals, they aren't engrossed in leading a perfect life or being a "perfect" spouse or parent. They know their strengths and weaknesses very well and embrace each one.
Put Health on Top PrioritySince physical and mental health are inseparable, taking good care of both is essential to happiness. Happy people understand this concept very well. They do not dwell on unhealthy habits. Taking care of mental and physical health is one of the top priorities on their list.
Self-acceptanceHappy people have complete self-acceptance. Self-acceptance is the key to confidence. Happy people know that it is not necessary to receive love from every person. They are not overly concerned with what other people think of them. The need to love everyone and make them happy is rooted in people-pleaser behaviour. People-pleasers are not the confident ones. People-pleasing behaviour is actually rooted in selfishness. People pleasers have an inner demand that everyone love them, praise them, and not criticise them. They do not have the calibre to say no because they do not want to receive no from others.
Rich in Social ConnectionsHappy people have strong emotional ties with their loved ones. They also have connections to different social communities. They are a part of social groups, such as tight-knit communities, clubs, churches, and committees. They share their heartiest bonds and love with their loved ones. This does not mean that all happy people are extroverts. Happiness is not exclusive to extroverted personality types. Happy people can have introverted personality types as well. Introverted people who are happy maintain a minimum threshold of social interaction, which is essential for happy people. As human is a social animal. Even content introverts don't cut themselves off from the outside world. It goes without saying that everyone has quiet time, regardless of whether they are introverted or extroverted. Whether extroverts or introverts, happy people rarely withdraw from society.
